I am a small beekeeper who has expanded to 42 hives as of now and will
be splitting again to about 70-80 hives before fall. I have found
myself at a crossroad regarding feeding sugar syrup. I am currently
feeding about 40-50 gallons of 1:1 syrup using the mann lake cap and
ladder 1.5 gallon frame feeders.
Right now I am manually dipping a cup several times per feeder to fill
it up, once robbing season gets here soon this will be a problem.
I expect to eventually be feeding around 80 plus gallons a week as I
am drawing comb as well with these splits.
What form of 12 volt DC pump or gas pump do folks use? I worry about
the syrup messing with typical water pumps. I also notice most gas
water pumps, pump far too many gpm for a frame
feeder...
Any thoughts for pumps or methods I can use? Any lessons learned?
