I answered my own question that I posted a few weeks back.
The bees do indeed treat the dry pollen substitute as pollen. They carry it back to the hive in their pollen baskets and store it in the cells around the brood. I also suspect that it will undergo lactic acid fermentation and be converted to "bee bread".
