Now granted, I have only a dozen hives, not the hundreds or thousands some of you guys manage, but in 15 years I don't think I've ever lost a hive tool in the bee yard, at least not for longer than a minute or two. The way I lose them is by taking them out of my bee box for use as a paint scraper, gutter cleaner, wax chopper, etc. I need a few extras around because at any given time I may have one in the basement, one in the kitchen junk drawer, a couple in the garage somewhere and, with any luck, one in the bee box in the trunk of my car.
