Don't know--I don't mark them. We split all hives in spring, while the old
queens are going gangbusters, and keep the good old queens in splits
(probably 2/3rds of them). They lay up the splits like mad. I can't
guarantee how long they survive, but I also don't really care, since queen
issues are not a problem for us--only a few percent of colonies ever go
queenless.
FWIW, it appears to me that thymol is much tougher on a colony than is
oxalic (we've used Apiguard gel at half dose for several years).
