Human sweat stimulates aggression in bees. My mentor told me this after I
had a stinging incident in the field several hundred feet from the hives.
He told me to take a shower and change clothes, leave my sweaty hat home,
and go back up to the bees. I had no problems with the bees. So I went back
to the house and got my sweaty ball cap. I then went back up by the hives,
passed the hat past the fanning hives, and they came boiling out of the
entrance immediately. The bees drove me from the vicinity of the hives
where a few minutes earlier I had walked back and forth in front of the
hives without any aggression from the bees. This effect does not happen to
everybody. There is something in the body chemistry of some of us.
Mosquitoes do not like me when I am stinky either.
