Hi Andrea:
I make up sugar syrup in a 45 gallon bbl. I take a hose from the hot water
connector to my washing machine and put 70 kg of hot water ( about 130 deg
F) into the bbl. I then add 120 kg of sugar.
I have a fairly good mixer which I run for about an hour. There is almost no
solid sugar left at the end of the hour. I find that making the proportions
slightly less than 2 to 1 eliminates most of the granulation.
You might be able to filter your syrup through a bag as used for making
jelly to get rid of the unwanted sugar crystals. They will plug up the bag
fairly quickly, but you can use a hose to wash them off.
Best regards
Donald Aitken
