Hi Barb,

According to a friend, the cups you found are part of a set with a punch bowl. There was a dry mix to which hot water and alcohol were added to create the Tom and Jerry punch served during the holidays. He recalls that older versions of The Joy of Cooking books had cocktail recipes and might include that one. We think it was an English import, but have found no definitive source yet.

Hope this helps,

Monique

Subject: tom & jerry punch cups

Dear Hist'Archers,
We have found a gold-embossed "tom and jerry" punch cup in a 19th century San Jose assemblage and are looking for reference materials that might help us date this specimen. It is very similar to this vintage cup offered for sale on eBay.

Does anyone know of good reference books for this genre of antique?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions -

--Barb
