The wing nut suggests that it or what it was attached to was adjustable.
It appears cast. Is it iron or pot metal? I suggest that it might be
part of a piece of agricultural equipment where the teeth once held some
adjustable part at various angles or heights.

Jenny,

A colleague of mine who is into andirons thinks that what you have is a
bracket, based on its size. Hope this helps.

Subject: Artifact ID: Bracket? Andiron? SW USA

Hi all,

Any help identifying the artifact found at the following link would be
much appreciated:
https://sites.google.com/site/histarchcollective/bracket-andiron-from-hi
storic-site-in-the-sw-usa

This item is an isolated surface find, without any solid archaeological
context from a post-1870 historic site in the southwest US. It appears
to be burned, and current thoughts were that perhaps it is a simple
decorative bracket, or part of an andiron.

Many thanks in advance for your help,
Jenny
