> Afterwards, they receive a mixture of jelly, honey and pollen;
This is often repeated, but I find a dearth of actual evidence that they are
fed pollen other than as a contaminant.
I read a paper years ago, but can't remember who it was by. The author
analyzed larval meconium for pollen shells, which would indicate that the
larvae were fed pollen at any time during their development. As I recall,
most larvae had never had pollen in their digestive tracts. If anyone can
find this paper, I would be much obliged!
