Jennifer,
Check out the wonderful documentary Gizmo, directed by Howard Smith:

Many years ago, at my first museum job at the New York Hall of
science, I had the pleasure of working with kinetic sculptor Norman
Tuck, who had just been hired as Artist-in-Residence. A group of us
were discussing different ways to build a particular contraption, when
Norman asked, where are your Tinkertoys, I'll show you something that
works in a few minutes. We had to admit that we didn't have any
Tinkertoys -- but we did remedy that at the first opportunity. What a
great toy! Best of luck with your exhibition.
All the best,
Tom Nielsen
