We are considering expanding into a Museum on Wheels (Van) Outreach program.  We did this years ago (and it did not support itself).  However,  with the financial and time stress that the schools are under, we wonder if it would be a viable and welcome endeavor.

It would really help us to judge the viability if you could share a few stats from your Outreach Programs:

*          How larger is your local community (city)?

*         Within your local community, how often do you provide

o   Auditorium Programs (school paid vs. grant funded)

o   Individual Classroom programs (school paid vs. grant funded)

*          How large of an area do serve overall?

*         How often do you travel to schools

o   In your local community?

o   In your city, but outside your local community?

o   In your county, but outside your city?

o   In your state, but outside your county?

o   Outside your state?

*         Is it your experience that your mobile museum can be self-sustaining (staffing, vehicle, supplies) or is grant support necessary?

Any other lessons, advice or information you'd care to share about these outreach opportunities would be greatly appreciated.
