Interesting reference, but is the lower weight reflective of a leaner
Queen, or of shutting down of her reproductive system, stopping egg production,
etc.?
I always assumed the latter, maybe its both? As per an egg-laying queen
not being able to fly - I've seen laying queens fly out of colonies and
circle the yard, when the colony was opened and the population highly agitated.
Not often, but she can fly, and sometimes does. Never seen one go very
far in that state, which I think would be expected.
