I would like to understand a little more of what people wear for bee
keeping.
-------
I dress for the occasion. I prefer to go normal - shorts and a t-shirt -
and generally wear a veil. I wear the veil to keep the bees from getting
behind my glasses.... one of the few times bees really bother me. Yet, I
know that sometimes I am well advised to cover up more. If the weather is
bad or I know the colony has an attitude problem, I don't mind doing the bee
suit.
When I go out on bee calls I carry everything including boots and gloves...
just in case. I have not met the AHB swarm here in northern Illinois yet,
but it may happen. Generally I don't wear most of what I take. It is fun
to awe the civilians by capturing a swarm with no protection... and it helps
improve the honeybees' reputation.
The bottom line is that I enjoy communicating with the bees and a lot of
that communication comes from being able to touch and be touched. I do
think bees get to know their keeper.
