Sari,

Hi. I haven't placed a geocache at a center before but after 9+ years of geocaching, I am comfortable responding to your question. In the hundreds of geocaches I have opened, I have come across no inappropriate material. I think it is wise to check on it occasionally but I don't think you need to worry about what you will find. The more likely event is that you'll find all of the cool stuff missing with a handful of used golf balls remaining! Geocaching is so widespread nowadays that most seasoned geocachers no longer trade stuff. Your newbies are likely to trade, though. Personally, I think that's part of the draw. My son (now 13) placed one when he was five and people seem to leave more than they take. It may be that they perceive it as a kid cache, so they are loading it up with trinkets.

I believe that you'll find the whole experience to be a hoot. Let us know what you end up doing. I'll bring my GPS receiver the next time I am in your area.

Cheers,
Seth!

Hi All,

I know Geocaching came up once, but it moved to a private thread.

Has anyone used geocaching at their centers? We are hoping to start placing some caches, but a concern has been raised about the risk of leaving the cache box (which is publicly associated with our center) where a finder could leave anything (potentially something inappropriate) in the box for the next finder.

Any thoughts? Has anyone had issues with the content of their caches after placing them?

Thank you!

S
