Don't forget to include the cam. This is particularly useful for easily constructed machine models. You just need to cut a thick wooden dowel into slices, then drill off-centre holes which are a tight push-fit on much thinner dowels, say, 5mm diameter. Other disks could be drilled with two holes to make crank-handles. If several of the cams are fitted to a rotating shaft with pivoted or sliding rods resting on them, all kinds of fascinating to-and-fro motion can be arranged. You can also make a lovely 'wave machine' in this way.
