This is a post from another list and I am wondering if anyone here knows anything about this type of sensitivity. Mike in LA
Hello. I am new to the group and beekeeping in general. I live in Northern Kentucky. I have
begun with two colonies with Russian queens. My question is in regards
to sensitivity to honey after bee stings. I was stung a few times last
week and had normal swelling and itching lasting a few days. The
following week I did my inspection with no problems other than I had to
scrape a fair amount of burr comb from the side of my upper hive body. I
harvested the capped comb that was removed and filtered the honey.
During the process I enjoyed tasting the first honey from my new hives,
very distinctive. I noticed though, that of my three stings from the
previous week, the one that swelled the worst began to itch madly and
swell again, although not to the extant previously. Overnight I took a
small amount of Benadryl and by morning was pretty normal. I tasted a
small amount of honey again and had a similar reaction. Is anyone
familiar with this type of sensitivity? I'm hoping it is temporary.
