Been a lot of talk on what to wear. Let's take it to the next level.
Here's my question: Is there something to put into or on our clothing that would repel bees? I'm thinking some citronella oil or fabric softener. I've heard that wearing a dryer sheet of fabric softner under your hat will repel mosquitoes and gnats. Would a commercial mosquito repellant with DEET work to keep bees from stinging?
I only wash my bee suit once a year, and in reality, only wear it about twice a year or when absolutely necessary. My preference is for a long-sleeve, cotton shirt. Veil if necessary and gloves only on really hot hives. I've got some really aggressive hives that warrant the full suit. And on all hives, I use a smoker.
I've used Bee-Go in the past, but the residual smell is still so powerful that my wife won't let me in the house. My truck stinks for weeks. I just tell my passengers I recently ran over a skunk. And this is just from the residual.
