> The Latin American subcontinent contains some of the world’s major honey producing and exporting countries, but the status of bee health in this part of the world has not been clearly documented. -- Remy Vandame, Maria Alejandra Palacio. Apidologie 41 (2010) 243–255
> A new tarsonemid mite, Pseudacarapis trispicula Ochoa and Pettis n. sp., is described and illustrated from females phoretic on Apis mellifera L. collected from intercepted honey comb from Mexico. This is the first record of this genus in the Americas and the distribution and impact of this mite species in honey bee colonies remain unknown. The only other known species, Pseudacarapis indoapis Lindquist, has a host-specific association with Apis cerana Fabricius.
