I am in south-western Ohio.  Not quite warm but not frozen solid...we do get long spells of cold below freezing but not below 0.

I have had good results in overwintering in double deep nucs.  These are late splits of undetermined genetics (mutts, local swarms, etc) and are placed in a 5 frame deep and then we pull some full deeps of stores from strong hives and placed them on top in October.  It seems to work well so far.  I am small (30 colonies) so I am not too sure how this would translate to larger scale.  I am hoping to double up next year and will have better numbers then (2012).
