Allen, what are your current temps? Here in Maine we had a long warm spell -
generally in the 50s and was up to 70F on Saturday. But we will see some low
temps this next week and weekend, low 40s and 30s during the day. Nights in
the teens or lower. Bees were busy all over the State.
Last time this sort of thing happened in Maine, some beekeepers lost their
bees to starvation because bees were keeping brood warm and did not venture
a few inches to honey. Which is when I learned all about candy. Lost one
colony that way when I first started keeping bees. My guess is we will see a
repeat over this coming cold snap with some beginners.
