I am at a bit of a loss. I came across some colonies headed by new Australian/Italians in mid summer and found several with eggs only. No hatched brood. No drone brood. Assuming she had shut down due to lack of nectar flow, we marked the colonies as starting to fire up again. Kept an eye on these colonies and always the same...eggs only. Same queen as she is marked. There is plenty of pollen available and the area for laying has shrunk considerably due to pollen crowding in. It is not isolated as we have seen this in four colonies already and in different yards but with the same line of queens. Any ideas out there??
