This represents a big drop since 2005/06, when nearly all honey (94 per cent) passed the government's chemical-residue compliance test. In a statement Tuesday, the agency said there is no health risk posed to consumers, chalking up the failure rate to bee-calming agents used during the harvesting process. They include benzaldehyde and butyric anhydride.
