Comparing Kufra and Kangaroo Island is a bit of a stretch. The Kufra Oasis is on 80 km2 whereas the island is 4405 km2.
Kangaroo Island is as big as the US state of Rhode Island, whereas Kufra is the size of a typical town or village, six miles wide.
However, that is not the chief difference. The big difference is that it is doubtful that modern queen rearing is practiced in the remote desert of Libya.
The technique of selecting breeder queens and raising thousands of daughters (which are all sisters) from the same mother, is completely the opposite of natural queen rearing.
Charlie Mraz pointed this out decades ago, and advocated the practice of splitting good hives in two, producing ONE new queen per breeder.
Something to think about.
