It is not a matter of time alone, the time is proportional to the
genetic difference between the colony and the queen that is to be
introduced.
I have known 15 minutes to be adequate for related stock and upwards of
12 days for a queen of very different origin.

This certainly helps, but I do not think it is essential. If you are
introducing a completely different race, then you need to leave the
attendants to feed the queen during the first few days as she will be
neglected by the colony.
