Actually, since we are mentioning this, I should say that I was just out at the hives weighing them and I wrap one or two each time. Twelve to go.
In wrapping, I expose the cluster when I remove the telescoping lid if the pillow comes up with the lid. (I usually also add several pillows to get extra insulation on top). This gives me a glance at the bees.
Anyhow, today it is minus 10 C, which is about 14 degrees F if I recall, and the bees look fine -- tightly clustered and a little smaller than a volleyball at this temperature -- and I am not worried about the slight disturbance.
