ISEN-ASTC-L is a service of the Association of Science-Technology Centers

We really appreciate the enthusiasm of all the CAISE Fellows (thank you, Madlyn!) and others who've been involved in this project. For those who haven't heard of it yet, it was conceived by John Falk with one of the CAISE Inquiry Groups that was interested in taking what he calls a "bottom up" view of the infrastructure that supports our learning about science across our lifetimes--zoos, libraries, garden clubs, television... As we all know, the list is vast.

But mostly, this project was conceived as a way to spark conversation and thinking about how and where we learn across our lifetimes, and what we mean by science in our everyday lives. It was also conceived as a way to get people involved in trying out an interview and thinking about what the questions are, and how we could approach them more systematically.

From what we've heard, some stimulating and enjoyable conversations have resulted for those who have gotten involved. We've also heard understandable concern when the project has occasionally been labeled "research." That wasn't the intention--but conversation about this is more than welcome, here or offline.(I'm sending a note because my colleague John Falk is in Australia, where it's nighttime!)

Meanwhile, for those who are interested in reading more about the recent Informal Science Education Summit organized by CAISE, we've been posting material online with more to come.
