The Cultural Resources Section at the Maryland State Highway Administration is pleased to introduce a new blog, War of 1812 Archaeology in Maryland. http://warof1812archaeology.blogspot.com/. As part of the state’s bicentennial commemoration efforts, we have been partnering with other agencies to locate, survey, and excavate War of 1812 sites. Since our work will continue well into 2014, we thought it was important to establish a web site where the public, our partners and colleagues could follow along as we make discoveries and learn more about specific battles and encampments along our highways. In addition to our initiatives, we also wanted this to be a place where other Maryland archaeologists can share their work and findings on the War of 1812. We hope you’ll stop by often to read about ongoing efforts to uncover new and fascinating stories about one of the most obscure, yet significant chapters in United States history. Interested in contributing to our blog? Please send an email to [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>. Thank you.
