Liz and all,
I have learned a thing or two about terms and the use of the terms regarding
safety and health. I hope you all do not mind me saying these things. This
is just something I know a thing or two about.
When you use the term "fume" hood you are actually talking about "Vapors"
hoods. It is a common misuse of the terms. It means that if you are using
chemicals on a metal object, i.e. square nails, then you may get both vapors
and fums. The burning of a metal object, i .e. with a Bunsen burner or blow
torch, creates fumes and when you use chemicals you are changing the
atmosphere around and creating vapors that will rise. You will need to get
the right type of filter for the vapor hood depending on what type of vapor
is being exposed to the atmosphere and to the person using the chemicals.
I would suggest that you still get the vapor hood to be safe. Better be
over safe then someone having a incident with a chemical.
That is just my two cents.
Best,
Jason Schmerer
