HISTARCH,
I've made some inquiries, but so far have come up blank. Does anybody know
of any references to archaeological research or CRM work dealing with
Seattle's Klondike gold rush past?
The Seattle Unit of the Klondike Gold Rush National Historic Park centers
on the Pioneer Square Historic District. There is also the nearby First
Avenue Historic District which, along with Pioneer Square, has properties
listed on the National Record specifically associated with the Klondike
Rush of 1897-99.
A colleague indicates that many of the buildings that make up these
districts are privately owned, and therefore may have avoided the Section
106 umbrella.
Surely, there must be some work that has been done in Seattle that has
recognized, let alone focused on, this major international event?!
Any references or leads would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.
Best,
Robin
