Caret usually refers to the spacing symbol ^. A caret can also be called a wedge, up-arrow, hat, control character, or chevron. As a proofreader's mark, it means "insert here"
Angle bracket, bracket - either of two punctuation marks (< or >) used in computer programming and sometimes used to enclose highlighted material. Some dictionaries use them to enclose short excerpts illustrating the usage of words.
