Thanks for your recap of the last few years of beekeeping-and all the 
comments by others.
I sure agree that in my experience, deep shade and moisture are harmful to 
bees and greatly decrease  productivity in extreme conditions. -this is also 
true with controlling SHB. I remember reading a study in ABJ a couple years 
back about hives in shade vs sun... the hives in the sun were more 
productive and to the best of my memory even the mite leveles were lower.
