In Randy Oliver's 12/17 "Rite Cell vrs Duragilt" post he said, "If I were a recreational
beekeeper..."
What a great new name for the "hobbyists" level beekeepers. I like "recreational." It sounds like they are having fun. Much less frivolous than one who is merely keeping bees as a "hobby."
The ABF elevated "hobbyist" to "small scale" which brings a little more dedication to the table. Another great improvement.
Larry Connor continues to promote the "serious sideliner," which may be better described as the "aspiring commercial" beekeeper.
I still don't understand how counting the number of hives honestly describes one's passion and commitment to beekeeping. But I like "recreational." It's much more philosophical and less utilitarian than "hobbyist."
