Hi Randy and all
Yes, out west in Alberta they have a dry cold. "You don't even
notice it at -40C/F". Here in Ontario its a damp cold in the south
where I am and dry up north. In answer to Bill's query; I think that
the newspaper absorbs moisture from the hive which dampens the sugar,
thus softening it. The crystallized honey is packed away in cells
with no moisture for the bees to soften it.
