Hi All
Today I removed a hive from a home about 4 km from ours. The combs
were hanging from a small roof over a floor to ceiling window but
closed at the bottom by rough boards. The hive entrance was between
these boards and the adjacent chimney bricks. When I removed the
boards, I found 15 combs running on an angle between 2 2x10 roof
joists. I remembered a discussion here a few years ago, Waldemar was
involved I think, where the orientation of the combs was talked
about. I don't remember any resolution but a member of our local
association who has kept bees for 140 years by the way he talks says
that they are always oriented north to south. I had to go home for
some more gear so grabbed my Silva compass and checked. 130 degrees
from north or 5 degrees shy of south-east. I can hardly wait for the
next meeting.
