I have been recommending that local beekeepers who practice drone brood removal once per month for mite control quickly check the drone frame for AFB symptoms when they remove the frame.  This results in checking all hives every month for AFB outbreaks.

If Lloyd's comment is correct, perhaps my recommendation is in error.  Does anyone have any references or personal experience relating to drone brood resistance to AFB?
