Marla's work makes me wonder if the selection for less propolis has been detrimental to honeybees over time. Or am I speculating that queen breeders actively selected for less propolis? I have heard off handedly that this has been the case with the Italians.
I feel like the Russians and Carniolans I have, produce more propolis then Italian lines - is that because they have experienced less selective pressure since the Italians have been more common in USA for the last almost 100 yrs ?
Can anyone comment on my hypothesis?
