Allen, you hit the nail on the head! There used to be a "futures market"
for bees when growers signed contracts in November. Today, Joe Traynor is
the only one who puts up a price in June, which sets a sort of benchmark.
As it is, there are too many beekeepers and growers gambling on short or
long positions, right up to the last minute.
In answer to Brian's previous question, the Almond Board has no position on
Australian bee imports.
