I didnt answer your question. In my area of central va with hives in
full sun, I have no problems with moisture at all with no top entrance
or ventilation gap. However in previous years when I had a few hives
in partial winter shade I did run a small case of chalkbrood due to
the damper conditions. I now run all my hives in full sun.
My opinion is pop the top and check each hive for excess moisture,
every location in every area is different.
For someone that doesnt pop the top I would suggest play it safe and
ventilate. However, if your like me I like playing around and ruling
out those rules of thumb for myself in my area.
