It should be mentioned that top bar hives (TBHs) are an excellent option for elderly or weak beekeepers.  Honey crops are a bit smaller but one needs to handle individual frames only.  I think even a person in a wheelchair could work TBHs if set up properly.

Also, blowing excessive smoke into the supers introduces extra products of combustion into the honey.  I never blow smoke bet. super frames and only lightly smoke the tops and bottoms of supers to drive the bees bet. the frames when restacking supers on the hives.
