I worry that this hive will run out of stores in spite of taking lots of syrup.
A bit of solar warmth occasionally will enable them, for a short while, to reach other stores in the hive and bring them back to the cluster for sharing. I don't think it matters much if a dark hive radiates warmth provided the clustered bees within have food in their bellies. A tight cluster is well-insulated and so not much of the heat radiated from the hive will come from them.
