Assumes a swarmy colony?
Not necessarily. I meant that the job should be done in the swarming
season and thus at a time when there are drones around to mate with the new
queen.
Some of my queens have gone on for a long time before swarming - one passed
her 4th birthday before doing so. It is from such colonies that genetic
material can be taken to requeen the artificial swarm.
