Yesterday, I attended a concert in Stockholm. The Swedish Radio Orchestra
was playing under the batoon of Tomas Dausgaard. Soloist this evening was
Isabelle van Keulen i Allan Petterssons second violin concerto. This is
music that makes me happy. This concerto, written for, and first performed
by Ida Haendel, is formally based upon Petterssons own Barfotasong Herren
gar pa aengen. You can hear fragment of this song throughout the whole
work, written in one movement (53'). First, in the end, you will hear the
entire song in the violin. (Compare the use of the Bach corale in the Berg
Violin concerto). I have one question. Is this concerto played abroad? I
know that Pettersson is very popular in Germany, and also have many friends
in USA, but this concerto is extremely hard to play, so it would be
interesting to hear if any of you have heard this concert live. The
performance yesterday was excellent.
Best regards!/ Lars-Johan Lonn
