Call me happy- had a hive package this Spring and I could NOT keep a queen
(French bees who oppose the monarchy? I thought I had ordered Russians but
guess they can be just as bad...). The queen that came with the package was
pissy, then she disappeared. Asked a mentor and took his advice to get some
fresh eggs from my other hive and try them and they did build queen cells
but tore them down. (Mentor also said they might do that, and they did...)
Ordered a new queen but after laying a few spotty clumps she disappeared
to. That is when the Listserve had all the great "splits" postings.
Short answer- I gave them a couple more frames of eggs from my "hearty hive"
and *left them* *alone*- no peeking. Yesterday was 30 days post-transfer
and Lo! Eggs! Larvae! Full pattern! The girls know what they want and
how to do it...
Thank you, Bee-L!
