Honey is heavy, gravity is omnipresent.  Without mechanical help, human 
backs and muscles have to do the lifting.  Not Langstroth's fault nor anyone 
else's.

There are simply some jobs that require strength.  I used to have one 
(roughneck on a drilling rig).  I don't do that anymore.  I don't keep bees 
anymore, either.  I'm eighty-two years old, and as young as I'm ever going 
to be.
