If only this could be true. I doubt we'll ever get the toothpaste back in
the tube because of the very immensity of agriculture. If a farmer decides
to forgo one crop a year and plant a green manure crop and plow it under,
it's the equivalent of taking half or a third of his land out of production.
An organic farmer being small, might do this. Scale it up to a company that
owns a million acres and stockholders start to squawk. Meanwhile the
competition has chemistry working for it. Have you heard about chemigation?
Putting pesticides in the irrigation water?
But I may be wrong. What organic practices do you see that would work in a
commercial operation?
