Hello All,
I have been on the phone with other Midwest beekeepers about the current
constant rain situation. Constant rain for two months. Rain is predicted for
every day till the 15th. of May.
None of us has seen a similar season start. Bees are still in the apple
orchards with no pullout date set.
I personally have my spring bee work done but others can not get into bee
yards.
I went ahead and worked in the rain and mud and was seriously stuck (4 wheel
drive truck) three times in March & April. Now getting into those yards is
impossible.
The hives in the holding yard can be worked in all kinds of weather but need
moved by May 15th into honey producing locations.
Rain in late March & April has in almost all cases produced bumper honey
crops in May & June. The opposite is true of rain from May 15th to June 30th
( main honey flow).
What are other Midwest beekeepers seeing?
bob
