Eric-

I work with Barbara White and the ThinkerTools research group at UC
Berkeley. The group has done some classroom trials using a Music and
Warm-up project to introduce inquiry to middle school kids (Warm-ups are
short writing activities at the beginning of class to get students focused).
Basically, the students did their own research to determine how playing
different types of music (or none at all) during warm-up affects their work.
It is fun and interesting for the kids and does a great job getting them
to think about research design and supporting claims with evidence.

The teachers guide for the project is in the draft stage now, but I can
probably get a copy to you if you are interested. You can check out the
group's web site at http://thinkertools.soe.berkeley.edu/

This may not be exactly on target for what you are looking for, but if you
make a vague request, you never know what you will get :)

Let me know off list if you want to hear more.
