Anders,

I've always used powdered Oxyclean detergent, which usually works just
as well as mentos. It also has a more everyday lesson in it...since
most people use such detergents for cleaning clothes and dishes.

It's a good lesson about water tension and nucleation sites, while
bringing the whole demo to a more relevant, everyday level.

Subject: Fun uses for 200 liters of soda?

I've been doing the mentos-soda explosion for a while now, and it's
great fun. But I'm getting bored, and I have a lot of soda that we
acquired for this demonstration. I want to kick it up a notch and turn
this one trick pony into a 3-ring circus.

Does anyone know of other cool, fun, messy, spectacular science
demonstrations you can do with a 2-liter bottle of soda? Preferably
that result in the soda leaving the bottles in mass quantities?
