Sorry to say, I have to chime in with the same reaction for the EcoTarium
here in Worcester. The easier it is for the Gate personnel to identify
other museum's members, the faster service all receive.

The same would be true for the Lancaster Science Factory...we are run mostly
with volunteers and making a call to the Sci-Port would tie them up from
handling other visitors.

Rebecca -

We would not honor your cards - they need to have a name and an expiration
date on the card we can verify with a photo id. We also would not be able
to call each time a member visited. Thanks

Hi Everyone:

We're looking at getting some new plastic membership cards, similar to
what you would get at a grocery store or pharmacy. We would be able to
swipe them at our front desk and know whether the card holder was a
current member. The catch is that for OUR purposes, these generic cards
would not need to have a name and expiration date printed on them.

But what would happen when a Sci-Port member visits another city and
wants to use their generic membership card to get discounted or free
admission to another ASTC institution? How would other institutions
react if a Sci-Port member presented a card with no name on it at their
counter in another city? Would it be enough to have Sci-Port's
800-number on the front of the card with a message saying "call to
verify cardholder's current membership"?

What I'm really asking is whether ASTC as a trade organization has
standards for how we should identify members of the constituent
institutions. Anyone know?

Thanks,

Rebecca
