Laura,
We had great success at the Science Center of Iowa with a product called Scala.  It's the same product  used for the ViewSpace program from the Hubble folks.  You can edit and distribute to other computers and displays from one workstation which makes operation very efficient.  Feel free to contact me off list if you'd like more detail.

Hello!  We are looking into revamping our current digital signage (i.e.
- out with the old, in with the new) and would love to hear suggestions
or words of caution regarding specific manufacturers and models your
facilities have used. At this point we're not looking at anything fancy
- no touch screens, etc - just something to run a series of
slideshow-type signage.
